A Fantastic Day of Football!

Whistles blowing, footballs flying, players running, fans cheering, referees keeping score, and volunteers helping out as well!

On Saturday, September 20, a lively scene unfolded at Akerskogen in Hamar, Norway.  Excited children, young people, parents, and coaches met up for what would be one of the biggest highlights of the football season.  The 500 players were excited, ready to play, and had a positive attitude.  They came from near and far—from Norway and abroad.  A good atmosphere was present during the entire tournament, characterized by fair play and cooperation, not only within the teams but between the various teams as well.  As each game was played out and the scores became apparent, they were duly recorded.  There was, of course, lots of cheering, and the fans rejoiced together with the deserving winners after a hard day’s playing in the fields of Ankerskogen.

The churches that participated were Molde/Måløy, Drammen, Copenhagen, Sandefjord, Østfold, Horten, Eiker, Grenland, Valdres, Oslo/Follo, and Hamar.

Friends of all ages from Hamar volunteered for many different tasks such as manning the stands, selling fruit, and recording the day’s events.  They also put in a huge effort beforehand in preparing and organizing everything, and in cleaning up after the football tournament was over.  With a mind to serve, everyone contributed to making the day as good as possible for the children and young people in the church!
