Take up your cross daily

Then He said to them all: "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)

This verse has always been one of the most important things I’ve ever read or heard. I am a Christian, I’ve wanted to follow Jesus ever since I was converted – here's how!

I’ve also often wondered what it means to ‘take up my cross daily.’ ‘Do I do that?’ I’ve thought to myself. To gain a deeper understanding of what this verse means in practical, daily life, I had a look at the lives of four members of Brunstad Christian Church. I wanted to know about their experiences, and hear how their faith impacted on their everyday activities.

Making this film, which the production team dubbed as “the Daily Life film”, was a true privilege which I will keep with me forever. Every day has a purpose which God has perfectly planned – there are no accidents, no periods of “downtime” in His work, no moments where I am just waiting around for something spiritual to happen. No, this time right now has eternal significance.

The question is if I can see how God has prepared this as an opportunity for me to “take up my cross”. Do I see it as an opportunity to give up my own will and to react to the situation as He wants me to? Will I choose now to love Him to the point where I disregard my own opinions and surrender to His work in my life? Yes, it’s here in the small practical trials of everyday life that I find what I’m really made of. I see my own selfishness, lack of love, irritation, and many other things. But it is also here that God can do His greatest work of transformation in me!

Watch the film above. Be inspired for the opportunities that God gives you in your daily life; opportunities to come to freedom from sin!
