Farewell

Farewell, O sinful broad way,
you won't see me again.
I know quite well your pleasures
and what your joys contain.
I bear deep wounds and bruises
from following your way;
It cost the precious blood of Christ
that I'd be saved one day.

Farewell to worldly friendships,
I change quite happily.
I've found another Friend now;
each day He meets with me.
He took my heavy burden
and drove the storms away.
It cost the precious blood of Christ
that I'd be saved one day.

Farewell to dreams of glory,
of honor, goods, and gold,
Which cannot bring me further
than to the grave, so cold.
Unto the grave so cold—for
like autumn's bitter wind,
They sweep along the faded leaves
into their graveyard end.

Farewell to broken cisterns;
no more they int'rest me.
I've found another fountain
which flows abundantly;
Each morning, noon, and evening
I to this fountain go.
It cost the precious blood of Christ
to make this fountain flow.
